SAN BENITO / LA VILLA - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruben "Benny" Rivera Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, who left us peacefully on February 21, 2026, at the age of 49. Born on August 30, 1976, in Weslaco, Texas, Ruben touched the lives of many with his humble spirit and unwavering kindness.
With a heart as vast as the open road he loved to travel, Benny began his career as a truck driver at the young age of 15. His dedication to his work reflected his remarkable character, as he was not only a trusted professional in the transportation industry, but also a jack of all trades known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He embraced every opportunity to create lasting memories with his family, especially cherishing his final days surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.
Benny appreciated the simple pleasures in life. He had a passion for cooking, particularly barbecuing and enjoying his favorite enchiladas. He found joy playing the slot machines, dancing to Tejano music, and relaxing while watching romantic comedies. Always impeccably dressed in his western wear, he carried himself with pride, ensuring he was always neat and tidy. His love for smoking Marlboro cigarettes was a familiar part of his personality, as was the warmth he brought into every gathering.
Benny was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Porfirio and Sarah Rivera, and his maternal grandfather, Eli L. Garza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 beautiful years, Erica Longoria; his daughters, Victoria J. Morales, Myranda Rivera (Elijiah Garcia), Sasha Rivera and Bertha Torres; his cherished grandchildren, Desmond Garcia, Adnarym Garcia, Xavier Bryan, and Ivan Bryan; and his parents, Ruben Rivera Sr. and Lillian Rivera. Benny is also survived by his brothers, Robert Rivera and Porfirio Rivera (Monica); his maternal grandmother, Nicolasa Garza; and countless family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in La Villa. Interment will follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
During this time of mourning, let us come together to remember Ruben not only for the way he lived, but for the joy he brought into all our lives. May his spirit continue to guide us, and may he rest in eternal peace.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dr. Joseph Conde and staff at Serenity Funeral Chapels, located at 1401 E. Santa Rosa Ave., Edcouch, Texas 78538.
