Raul R. Cantu

WESLACO - Raul Cantu entered eternal rest on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the age of 74. Raul was born on April 16, 1951 in Edinburg.

Raul dedicated service working at the Evan's Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg as a correctional officer. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Raul found joy in cheering for his team, relishing every game day with family and friends. He had a passion for western and war movies, often sharing moments of laughter and nostalgia over cinematic classics. In the mornings, he cherished his coffee ritual, savoring each sip while planning the day ahead.

Raul was known for his love of barbecuing, creating unforgettable memories around the grill with family and friends. His favorite beer, Budweiser, paired perfectly with his delightful cooking. Sweet by nature, Raul had a special fondness for candies like Milky Way and Payday, adding a touch of sweetness to his life and those around him.

Above all, Raul loved being surrounded by his family. His ability to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere made everyone feel at home, whether it was during a family gathering or a quiet evening at home.

Raul is preceded in death by his parents Roberto and Teresa Cantu and brothers Pablo Canto and Roberto Cantu.

Raul is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou Cantu, children; Jennifer Marie (Armando, Jr.) Lopez, Krystal (Daniel ) Cantu-Cuate, Marco (Dorothy) Cantu, Monica Cantu, grandchildren; Armando Lopez III, Amaya Lopez, Joaquin Cuate ,Elias Cuate, Olivia Cantu, Gabbi Cantu, Sara Cantu, Frankie Gnekow, great-grandchildren; Easton Cantu and Iris Cantu. Raul is also survived by his siblings; Armando (Julie) Cantu, Mauricia Cantu, Sylvia (Guadalupe) Yzaguirre, and Esperanza (Arnold) Mercado.

Family and Friends will gather on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel Edcouch. As per Raul's wishes, cremation will follow at a later date.

Raul will be remembered for his gentle spirit, hearty laughter, and unwavering love for his family. We take comfort in knowing that Raul’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, forever surrounded by love and light.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dr Joseph Conde and staff at Serenity Funeral Chapels located on 1401 E. Santa Rosa Ave Edcouch, Texas 78538.
