ELSA– Benita Fernandez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Weslaco, Texas. She was born on March 22, 1940, in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Benita lived a life defined by warmth, kindness, and a deep love for her family.
She was known for her deep faith, truly a woman with a heart of gold who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Above all, Benita cherished the time she spent with her family. Her unwavering devotion to her children and grandchildren created bonds that will forever be treasured.
Benita was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ruben Fernandez, Sr.; her adored son, Ricardo Fernandez( Melba);her beloved grandchildren, Ricardo Andres Fernández and Benjamin Keith Fernández; her siblings, Rodrigo Rodriguez, Israel Rodriguez, Maria de la Luz Estebane, Juan Rodriguez, Maria, Flora and Santiago Rodriguez; and her loving parents, Guillermo and Ruperta Rodriguez.
She is survived by her loving children: San Juanita Fernandez; Ruben Fernandez, Jr. (Martha); Rene Fernandez; Irene Ramirez; Leticia Prieto (Martin); Maria Isabel Bautista (Fabian); Rodolfo Fernandez (Andrea), Marivel Fernandez; Evangelina Noriega (Jorge); Roel Fernandez. She is also survived by her siblings, Rafael Rodriguez, Ignacio Rodriguez, Francisco, and Guillermo Rodriguez. She is also survived by Dora Guerra her sister of the heart.
Benita’s legacy will continue to live on through her family, including 34 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsa. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Benita will be deeply missed, but her enduring love, kindness, and beautiful spirit will remain forever in the hearts of her family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dr. Joseph Conde and the staff at Serenity Funeral Chapels, located at 1401 E. Santa Rosa Ave., Edcouch, Texas 78538.
