Lydia Elida Hernandez

MERCEDES – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lydia Elida Hernandez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who entered eternal rest on June 17, 2026, at the age of 67.

Born on February 16, 1959, in Mercedes, Texas, Lydia spent her life rooted in the Rio Grande Valley and was a devoted resident of Edcouch, Texas. She lived a life defined by faith, resilience, compassion, and an unwavering love for her family.

Lydia was a woman of remarkable strength and independence whose faith guided her through every chapter of life. She dedicated many years of service as a medical assistant, finding great purpose in caring for others with kindness and compassion. Though known for her strong will and determined spirit, those who knew her best also experienced her gentle heart, generous nature, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. She was a source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love, leaving a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her. More than anything, Lydia was a devoted mother whose love, guidance, and steadfast support were the foundation of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jose Hernandez, son Jose Angel Hernandez, parents Alejandro Sr. and Juana Guerrero; and her siblings, Fernando Guerrero, Alejandro Guerrero Jr., Maria Isabel Guerrero, and Anita M. Guerrero.

Lydia leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her surviving family, including her devoted daughter, Apryl (Megan) Chapman; her beloved grandchildren, Julian Chapman, Jose Hernandez, Jessica Hernandez, Myra Martinez, Joel Martinez, Tamika Perez, Jaime Perez, Emmanuel Hernandez, and Kaitlyn Hernandez; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Saul Aguilar Jr., Jaime Perez III, Ezekiel Hernandez, and Katalaya Hernandez. Lydia is also survived by her siblings Porfirio Guerrero, Manuel Guerrero, Efrain Guerrero, Gerardo Guerrero, Maria F. San Miguel and Grace Guerrero. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Esmeralda Hernandez.

She will forever be remembered for her compassionate spirit, unwavering strength, and the selfless love she shared with her family and all whose lives she touched. Her kindness, generosity, and resilience will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her, and her legacy of faith and love will live on through the many lives she touched.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lydia's life on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, Lydia's love, faith, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for her family and friends, and her legacy will endure for generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace.
