IN LOVING MEMORY OF
LUIS ALVARADO ("Apa")
October 25, 1933 - October 16, 2026
Luis Alvarado (Apa), 92, of Nueva Campesino Libertad No. 2, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Mercedes, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026. Born on October 25, 1933, in Los Naranjos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, he lived a life marked by perseverance, dedication, and love for his family.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Luis worked in the United States as a bracero, determined to create a better life for those he loved. Throughout the years, he worked as a farm laborer harvesting fruits and vegetables, contributed to residential and road construction projects, and even traveled to American Samoa in the 1970s to work on road construction. His tireless work ethic and determination earned him the respect of all who knew him.
A natural entrepreneur with a wonderful sense of humor, Luis embraced life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, farming, and spending time outdoors. In his younger years, he was an accomplished baseball pitcher and enjoyed the camaraderie of the game. Some of his fondest memories were made at the family rancho, where he helped build the family home alongside his brother, Guadalupe. More than anything, Luis treasured his family. He was a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a devoted provider whose greatest joy came from caring for and spending time with his loved ones. His legacy of strength, generosity, and unconditional love will live on through the many lives he touched.
Luis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgina Alvarado ("Ama"), the love of his life. Together they built a loving family and shared countless memories. We find comfort in knowing that they are now reunited and together once again.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Guadalupe Alvarado and Mateo Alvarado Jr.; and his sisters, Emilia Villarreal, Julia, and Edelmira Pina.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Minerva Zuniga (Edelmiro), Elia Alvarado, Armando Alvarado (Kim), Margarita Ramirez (Francisco), Luis Alvarado, Jr., Isidoro Alvarado (Dora), Irma Gonzalez (Rene), Ermelinda Salas (Encarnacion), Elida Alvarado, Maria Alvarado and Guadalupe Alvarado (Patricia).
He is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren; siblings, Gregoria Godinez and Juana Molina.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Luis's life on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch. Interment will take place in Mexico at a later date.
Luis Alvarado leaves behind a memory of generosity, friendship, and love for simple, happy moments. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral arrangements are under the compassionate care and direction of Dr. Joseph Conde and the staff of Serenity Funeral Chapels, located at 1401 E. Santa Rosa Ave., Edcouch, Texas 78538.
