MERCEDES - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jose Magañas, age 47, who left us on May 17, 2025. Born on June 21, 1977, in Weslaco, Texas, Jose was a beloved son, husband, and friend, whose joyful spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Jose embraced life with an exuberance that illuminated every room he entered. He found joy in the simple pleasures of fishing under the wide Texas sky and gathering with friends at the shooting range. He had an undeniable love for Dr Pepper and Big Red, often enjoyed while indulging in his favorite pastime—watching novelas and comedy movies that brought laughter and light to his days. Dancing to corridos and cumbias was his way of celebrating life, and he did it with unmatched enthusiasm. Jose was particularly fond of Whataburger, always ready to share a meal and a smile with those he loved.
His compassion shone through in his desire to help others, making him a beloved figure in his community. Jose's infectious laughter and genuine warmth made him a confidant and friend to many. He had a unique gift for making people feel seen and valued, and his happy disposition was an inspiration to all.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife Erika Magañas, children; Jimmy Magañas, Milagros Magañas, Brianna Magañas, and Jose Armando De Leon, parents; Victor and Arminda Magañas, siblings; Esmeralda Magañas, Brenda Magañas, Victor Magañas, Jr and Jessica Magañas. Jose also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and numerous family members.
