Edcouch-Francisca Montalvo, born Francisca Abrigo, passed away on August 31, 2026, in McAllen, Texas, at the age of 80. She was born on November 24, 1945, in Falfurrias, Texas, and is remembered as a woman of devotion, tenderness, and steady love.
Francisca dedicated 30 years of her life to her work as a cafeteria manager, serving with deep commitment and pride. She was very dedicated to her employment, and that constancy reflected the kind of person she was—faithful in responsibility and generous in spirit. Beyond her work, she found joy in the simple and living things around her. She loved cats and animals, loved plants, and held a deep love for the church. Her faith was so close to her heart that she once wanted to become a nun, a reflection of the reverence and spiritual longing that shaped her life.
Family was a cherished part of Francisca’s world. She loved her nephews and nieces dearly, especially Pedro “Pedee” Abrigo. Her affection for those she held close was one of the enduring gifts of her life, expressed in warmth, loyalty, and the quiet ways that remain unforgettable to the people she loved.
She is survived by her spouse, Juan “Johnny” Maldonado. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephew Pedro “Pedee” Abrigo and Lupita; her nephew Vince Abrigo and Kimberly; her niece Kiran Abrigo; her nephew Julius Zatopek and Eloise; her niece Valerie Sosa and Javier; her niece Makayla Sosa; and her nephew Jayden Sosa. May their memories of Francisca bring comfort, and may the love she gave continue to live among them.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Abrigo, and her mother, Francisca Abrigo Montalvo.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Francisca's life on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch.
