EDCOUCH - Elvia T. Rivera, 82 entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Elvia was born on October 8, 1943 in Edcouch, Texas where she raised, and built a beautiful life.
Mrs. Rivera shared 66 devoted years of marriage with the love of her life, Luis Rivera, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. She was known for her strong work ethic and her selfless, giving nature. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, always placing the needs of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren above her own.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures attending garage sales, trying her luck at the maquinitas, purchasing lottery tickets, and, most importantly, spending time with her family. Her home was a place of warmth and comfort, where she lovingly welcomed all, often sharing her famous refried beans with those she cherished. Above all, she had a remarkable gift for bringing her family together. Even in her final days, she united her loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, storytelling, and love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan (Linda) Tamez and Francisca Tamez; her siblings, Julian Ybarra, Charlie Ybarra, Johnny Ybarra, Jaime Tamez, and Linda Rios; and her maternal grandmother, Jesusaita Reyes.
She is survived by her loving husband, Luis Rivera; her children, Idalia (Randolfo Alaniz) Ortega, Norma (Ramiro †) Rosa, Meliza (Gregorillo Castillo, Jr. †) Castillo, and Luis Rivera, Jr.; and her cherished grandchildren, Marissa (Raul) Martinez, Gregorillo Castillo III, Mario Rosa, Raymundo (Monica) Ortega, and Rico (Amy) Ortega.
She is also survived by her siblings, Juan (Elizabeth) Tamez, Jr., Evangelina Ybarra, Cruz Gonzalez, Carol Tamez, and Corina Romero, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends who will continue to honor her memory.
Family and Friends will gather on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch. Funeral service will be Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.Mrs.
Rivera leaves behind a legacy of strength, unity, and unconditional love.
